Vintage (probably antique) Nandi Brass Bells. What is the significance of the Nandi bull? Nandi, which means "giving the light" or "giving joy," is the sacred bull of the Hindu god Shiva, one of the most important Hindu gods. When the world becomes evil, Shiva destroys it to make way for beneficial change. Nandi is Shiva's animal form, his means of transportation, and his most ardent worshiper. Lord Nandi cared for and respected Lord Shiva a lot. So whenever Nandi had to worship Shiva, he used to ring the bell and sing praises to Shiva. Lord Shiva would wake up from his meditation to bless Lord Nandi for the songs. The bell is used to call and worship the deities, asking them to bless the devotee. Thus, it was a tradition that to praise the gods while singing verses, ringing the bell, makes selling for a good omen. The piece is 6" in overall width, 5" tall. Weighs 1.1lbs. Makes a beautiful melodious sound when rung. No markings on the piece, but safe to assume it was made in India.
