East of Albuquerque there is selling a canyon with the Sandia Mountains to the north and the Manzanito Mountains to the south. There is a striking contrast between these mountain ranges. On the south the steeply rising canyon has far more trees and far fewer rocks, the limestone shows itself mostly on the top of the ridges and along the lower stretches where there has been the most erosion. By contrast the northern side is comprised mostly of massive stacks of granite boulders exposed as the Sandias erode. This is a depiction of one of the hundreds to be found in Tijeras Canyon.
