Here's a well done pair of vintage wood block prints or linocuts that were created by artist Edward Edmonds. Both pieces were purchased by the artist in Capetown, South Africa in 1984. They were done on off-white paper and have matching brown mattes and black frames. I found this awesome pair of woodcuts at a West Bloomfield, Michigan estate.
Linocut #1 -- This piece appears to be a South African woman carrying her child. She has painted striped black and white lips and a decorative earring. This piece appears unsigned on the print or paper.
Linocut #2 -- This piece depicts a night scene with a herd of zebras grazing in a field and the moon off in the distance. This piece is also unsigned on the print or paper. There's an artist tag on the back of this piece that states "Prints given me by selling artist, '84 Edw. Edmonds in Capetown, S.A.
NOTE: Photos show reflection from indoor lighting.
Dimensions (approx):
Artwork (matte opening) - 4 3/4" W x 6 3/4" H
Frame - 9" W x 11" H
Condition: Excellent. Both pieces are in great shape. The paper on both shows some yellowing from light. The glass on both pieces could use a good cleaning. They could be displayed together or separately.
