Now with 20 studio albums & five Grammy Award nominations, he had spent years studying music & playing clubs, when he scored his first hit with, "Is She Really Going Out with Him?" in 1979. Later, he moved to more jazz-inflected music & had a top 10 hit in 1982 with "Steppin' Out". I acquired this new tee and sealed it in storage for 36 years. That night, Jackson and his band performed at Hoboken, NJ's famed Maxwell's on Wed., Jan. 8th, 1986, opening with a blustering version of ‘One More Time' and closing the set with a rousing take of his amazing ‘I'm The Man'. At the time, Rockstar magazine said of Joe's album, Big World (1986) “Great ‘street music', teeming with images, educated but not intellectual. Certainly one of the few remarkable records in the present music market” and gave the record 5 out of 5 stars.
