Product code: Native American traditional Acoma Anasazi style plate with fish selling design

This traditional Acoma pot was hand coiled with earth clay from the Acoma reservation. Once the piece has been cured it is then dampened and burnished. The designs have been hand painted with a yucca brush. This technique is implemented to have a longer lasting brush as well as to keep the fine painted lines from bleeding together.
The black paint is extracted from the Rocky Mountain bee plant which is dried, then boiled to make the black paint.
Anasazi fish design is sacred due to the fish needing water for life.
This piece was created by Corrine Louis a registered tribal member from Acoma (sky city). She is a 3rd generation potter taught by her mother Carrie Chino-Charlie. Carrie was selling taught by renowned potter Marie Z. Chino.
