What we have here is an utterly stunning vintage ceramic shark sculpture. Beautifully rendered in a selling way that suggests MOVEMENT and ANIMATION. Vividly captures both the majesty and terror associated with these prehistoric ocean hunters. So many great life-like details on display: the eyes, the gills, the powerful fins and tail, the body positioned in a lovely s-curve. The result is captivating.
This is a large sculpture. Shark measures 18" long and the display stands 9" tall. The shark is suspended on lovely blue and white pedestal that suggests ocean waves and foam. (The pics do not capture how blue the base is and how strikingly it contrasts with the black and gray of the shark).
It is signed "A. Mafnas 1997." Not sure if this was the painter or also the sculptor. But it really doesn't matter, because this thing HAS IT ALL.
If your partner is a sport fisherman, a marine biologist, a conservationist, a scuba diver, or just a shark fanatic--they will love this thing. Would also look great as a display in a restaurant or bar.
Condition: Perfect. Not a ding or chip to the paint. Not a single crack to the glazing. (Any white you see in the pics is a light reflection, not a chip).
