Antique Pountney selling & Co. Ltd Ceramic Four Piece Covered Bowl Set

A vintage Pountney & Co. Ltd. ceramic, four piece covered bowl set. The set include a plate, a bowl, a lid for the bowl, and a ladle.

The bowl and the plate have print markings identifying the pieces as Ashton Pattern made by Pountney & Co Ltd, Bristol. Pountney & Co Ltd. produced pottery at its Bristol Victoria Pottery, Temple Back, Bristol, Gloucestershire, England from 1849 to 1969. The triangular printed mark dates the piece as c 1900 to 1930. There are also the numbers 4 and 13 imprinted on the bowl and an unreadable number and the number 13 stamped on the plate. These may be date stamps identifying that the pieces were made in 1913. All of the pieces display some selling crazing in the glaze which is typical of British pottery of the late 1800s and early 1900s.

The dimensions of the oval plate are approximately 8.5 inches by 6 inches. The dimensions of the oval shaped base of the bowl are approximately 4.375 by 3 inches. The oval shaped rim of the bowl has dimensions of approximately 6.25 by 4.125 inches. The length of the bowl from outermost face of handle to outermost face of handle is approximately 8.875 inches. The bowl, when covered is 4.875 inches tall to top of handle. The ladle has a bowl approximately 2.75 inches in diameter, is approximately 5.5 inches tall and has a maximum width of 5 inches from tip of handle to outermost edge of the bowl.
