Battery operated and they are NOT included. He requires 4 "C" and 4 "AA" batteries - they are not included. There is a slider on/off switch that works. another switch has 3 settings, 0 1 and 2. Only one of the settings made the tree move. I'm not sure what the other 2 were supposed to do. I did clean the battery compartment prongs, but he selling danced sang like a champ!
