This is an original gouache and ink resist painting by Thomas Webb © 2009
I painted this for my solo show "On the Verge of Freak" at the Aveda Institute downton Portland.
The concept for the show is a little embarrassing, silly and simple.
Regular women captured in that instant they decide to get their freak on.
They are not caught in the act but caught at the moment they know the act will take place.
Painted on 5x7 Illustration board, using Higgins Black Magic Ink and M. Graham & Co. Gouache.
The painting is done using a technique I call Gouache and Ink Resist. The paining is painted in reverse, things in the foreground are painted first and followed by things in the middle and background. Every thing that will be black is left unpainted. The painting is then covered with waterproof ink. The gouache is then washed off leaving a positive image. Lastly I use transparent to opaque washes to finish in the image and lessen the importance of the technique. (see the last image for what it looks selling like before the ink is applied) More can be learned about the technique on my Etsy About Webbitup section.
Signed in the lower right.
The painting should be framed under glass.
