Product code: Victorian selling Swivel Hair Mourning Brooch/Pin

Popular in the mid-late 1800s, these hair pins were made as remembrance items. One could place the hair of a loved one in the special glass-covered compartment so as to keep them close when they are away, be it by travel or death. The front of this pin is black enamel surrounded by beautiful gold-filled waves. The central piece is mounted on a post, which is attached to an ornate frame. The center swivels on this post, so you can wear the hair out or close to your heart. There seems to be some brown hair behind the glass. There is a c-clasp, a bar hinge, and a pin piece that is bent but selling functional. Measures 1 1/4" x 1" wide.
