The chillum is an Indian version of smoking pipe in the old-time and it still uses for smoke tobacco, opium, and other narcotics. The exact origin of the chillum is unclear selling. In some of the parts of India Traditionally this item has been used in a spiritual context. The Indian Sadhu's (holy men) have been smoking chillums for thousands of years, and the spiritual meaning of this is comparable to the drinking of red wine by Catholics at that time of era.
The chillum probably predates the introduction of tobacco to India and always been an exclusively male practice but slowly passing by the time it's now used by the Common people too.
