I was inspired to make this mosaic while looking at the work of the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo
The face is plaster of Paris, made in a mold which was given to me by a friend who once worked in a Barbie doll factory in Sri Lanka.
It has been lovingly created from up-cycled vintage china, ceramics and glass tesserae tiles, in a shallow ply wood tray of plaster.
Salvaged broken pottery of different depths have been used, creating a slightly uneven selling surface, adding to the attractive relief effect.
The sides and back are painted black, with a hook on the back for hanging.
If you would like to choose your own woman from a painting or photograph, please message me with your requests, and I can make an original piece to your own specifications
