Product code: Selling Vintage Micro Mosiac Pins - Set of 3
Micro-mosaics are created from tiny pieces of glass or enamel, called tesserae, which are arranged to form an image. Each micro mosaic is created by a steady and patient hand ?a skill set that can be appreciated as these micro-mosaics are usually measured no more than a few inches and each piece of tesserae can be as small as a pencil lead, about 1 mm. It is truly an art form that is a labor of love. The easiest way to date micro-mosaic jewelry is to look at the metal and the findings. Older c-clasps on brooches are generally older than 1900. The safety pin style clasp dates to the 1920s. Trombone clasps didn't come about until the 1940s and only stayed in fashion for a few decades. There are no markings on these. But they do have a safety pin tie back on them. I am selling selling these for an estate and I don't have any other history on them, except that the owner did travel the world. Please ask if you have any further questions.
