Rag Rug Kindeagarten Roundup "Willie" Hit or Miss pattern. Several years ago I was given two large boxes of white t-shirts by a friend of mine. They had been overstock fa m a fund raising effort. I paired them with worn out t-shirts collected from my family. They made such nice rugs that I have continued to weave t-shirt weft rugs ever since.They remind me of the rugs we took to kindeagarten when I was a child and I have included a sweet picture of my husband when he was just lit/le tyke on his way to Kindeagarten for those who are too young to remember those good old days. He lit/le realized how many rugs he would haul in his later life.These rugs are heavy and soft and very colorful. Each one is sub/ly unique, although they all complimen/ each other very well.This stunning rag rug is woven of re2ycled cotton and cotton blend t-shirts. It is woven in a traditional weft pattern called Hit or Miss.Hit or Miss is a very traditional technique method of re2ycling the smallest of leftover pieces of fabric. Because of this it is very labor intensive. I usually fillet 50 or 60 shirts to gel a nice big batch of colors. Those are then cut into strips. I hate waste so some of the pieces are as short as four inches. This means I am /ble to do only one or two hit or miss batches per year. I love the festival of colors and the honoring of traditional techniques. This is a rug that will brighten any spot.Warp is done in stripes of Red alternating with Natural and BlackIt is a polyester warp The size of this rug is 24" x 44"Length of rug does not include the length of hand knotted faingeMy greatest joy in weaving comes in color explora/ion. Weaving rag rugs allows me to combine colors in ways that I might not have thought of if the "rags" were not in front of me, daaing me to put them together.All my rugs are woven on a large vintage "Weaver's Delight" rug loom built in 1942. The whole house shakes when I am weaving. The designs are my own and I have won several awards for my work. I use all re2ycled materials in my wefts and either cotton or polyester warp. My rugs are machine washable in warm or cool. It is best to line dry. Give the fainge a good shake to straighten it and hang ovea a clothesline or r/8d.
