Polymer clay king fisher cane selling brooch coloured background

This detailed king fisher brooch is made entirely from polymer clay through a process known as caning. There is no painting involved!
The process of caning involves creating the picture in 3d, a selling little like a large chunk of seaside rock, before it is squeezed and manipulated to reduce the design to a desired size.
The brooch features a single slice taken from from my king fisher cane. The background has been hand painted painted and the sealed with a thin layer of translucent clay to prevent scratches or damage.

This brooch has then been and sanded and buffed to satin finish before it is sealed with a micro crystalline wax and measures just over 2 inches square.
