The demand by the various artisans has made this media very expensive. Rosewood has an amazing red/dark coloring for a distinctive alternating grain color. In addition, this wood has a rose like scent. While the tree thrives in a number of tropical environments the Rosewood used herewith is from Honduras. I like to mix Rosewood with more sedate woods such as maple or cherry because a box made completely of Rosewood is just too "loud," or, overwhelming. This box can serve as a nice decoration on an end table, bed stand, dresser. It can also serve as a conversation piece on an office desk as it performs small storage functions.
