This 100+`year old barn wood piece is 35 inches long by 7 3/4 inches wide by 1 inch thick and comes from the original homestead on our family farm in Michigan's rugged Upper Peninsula. We don't know the exact date the first homesteaders arrived, but we do know it was there by 1912 because we have the 1912 Plat record. We are currently in the process of researching the exact date.
This piece is just a sample of the many colors, sizes and shapes of wood that we have available and each piece is custom made. We will try to match as closely to the sample as we can. Please message us if you would like to choose your own selection of wood and coat hooks from numerous options.
These pieces make wonderful racks for coats, towels, keys, clothes, tack...just about anything.
Each piece is unique with its own character but they all show their age and use beautifully. The thickness of the wood can vary as well depending on where the board was located on or in the building and thus what the weathering pattern was that affected it.
The old homestead holds such cherished memories for us that we want to share that enjoyment with others. We greatly enjoy talking with customers and finding just selling the right piece that they'd love to have in their home, office, or barn. We are happy to send pictures and communicate back and forth to ensure your satisfaction.
All of our wood is either completely in its raw form or sealed with polyurethane. No stains have been used on these boards and yet the colors are outrageously beautiful!!! Before this project I had no idea that the longer wood ages, the deeper its colors can become. All the color on the wood comes from the weathering process and the patina that forms naturally over a period of 100 years or more. It is stunning! Check out the rest of our store to see some of the other colors as we get them prepared.
Each piece is unique and includes a picture of the building it came from. ALL the distress marks, nail holes, cracks, etc are all the result of use and age. NONE of them have been added intentionally. We are committed to keeping the history and story of these pieces authentic.
We are happy to make custom orders and will use stain if someone requests it. We just want to offer all the original colors and then can adjust as people would like. Custom orders take 1-2 weeks to ship.
Hang with two screws directly into the wall, through studs preferably. Use either the keyholes on the back or drill through the board to screw onto the wall. Please use the proper wall hangers for the type wall you have. If you have any questions about hanging your coat rack, feel free to message us.
Everything about these pieces tells the story of life on the frontier as new land was opened and settled. We marvel that we and our kids have had the joy of exploring this history. We love sharing that with others and look forward to sharing it with you.
