A highly unusual Victorian gold coloured metal brooch or pin.
The setting is gold coloured metal in a simple design set with a large mottled green and brown shell which has been lightly polished to bring out the pattern and colour. Turn the brooch over and you can see the beautiful, pinkish nacre interior of the shell.
The Victorians loved to use unusual materials and innovative designs in their jewellery but this is not like anything I have seen before. The best thing about jewellery made from natural materials is that every piece is individual. This dates to around the 1880s or 1890s.
A great gift for anyone who loves vintage and antique jewellery.
The brooch has a long pin and fastens securely with a C clasp. It also comes with a safety chain which is not pictured.
Condition: The setting is missing one of the small balls from one side. otherwise excellent vintage condition.
