GODLEY SCHWAN...the design sensations from Chicago burst into the design world with spectacular colored furniture, edgy and fun jewelry and out of this world lighting! The winners of many design awards, represented in multiple museums here and abroad...their bold and colorful designs showed the world a whole new way to express joy and fun!

The first time I saw their work was in New York in the mid 80s . I was blown away with their fresh style and "in your face" colors!

Thirty some years later, I am delighted to offer not only this piece but many other remarkable jewelry pieces from an outstanding private collection of Mid Century Modern and Memphis design jewelry.

This pin is a bit unusual for a Godley Schwan design because instead of brilliant colors they have decided to do a striking pin in black and white! The design itself reminds me of a modern version of an award or medal.

All of their designs are pleasure to wear...and this pin is no exception! Always a conversation piece, totally unique and in perfect condition!

All Godley Schwan jewelry came with a little clear sticker that read "Godley Schwan" or "Godley Schwan Chicago". Many of these have disappeared over the years but our pin still sports its original "signature".

It is in perfect condition and looks like it has never been worn.

Museums all over the globe exhibit jewelry and furniture from this remarkable team of designers. Today, what isn't already in museums is being scooped up by serious collectors.

I don't know if Lyn Godley and Lloyd Schwan considered themselves to be part of the Memphis movement but there is a good chance that they inspired it!

Be the first on your block to own a piece of authentic Godley Schwan jewelry! it's like wearing a piece of design history!

It isn't often that you can make a great investment and have the pleasure of wearing it too!

GODLEY SCHWAN DESIGN

Listed Artists Lyn Godley and Lloyd Schwan (1955-2001) worked as a design team for 18 years, during a time when art, craft and design merged into a new form of American design.

Trained as artists, Godley and Schwan were at the forefront of breaking down barriers that stood among these fields. In 1984, Godley-Schwan entered the market with a line of jewelry that was alive with color, shape and materials. Over the next two years, Godley-Schwan branched out into home accessories, lighting and furniture.

In 1988 they introduced their American-made fun and functional objects at the Salone Internazionale de Mobile in Milan (otherwise known as the Milan Furniture Fair.). Their participation was unprecedented, as they were the first Americans to ever show in that prestigious fair.

Previously in the U.S., high-end art furniture had selling been sold exclusively through galleries, but with this emerging design trend – where the boundaries between art, design and craft blurred – limited edition or batch-produced designer goods became available to the public through department stores, specialty retail locations and newly formed U.S. trade shows such as Accent on Design (part of the New York Gift Show) and the ICFF (International Contemporary Furniture Fair).

Participating in these events from the very start, Godley-Schwan helped pave the way in the late 80s and 90s for the proliferation of designer furnishings available to the public today. As exemplars of this movement, Godley-Schwan's work can be found in numerous museum and private collections around the world, including the Denver Art Museum, New York's Museum of Art and Design and The Museum of Modern Art.

PINS
We think pins get a raw deal in today's fashion market. This seems a little odd since they are, historically speaking, the most versatile and long suffering member of a woman's jewelry arsenal.
In years past...every woman from childhood to old age would have a large collection of pins to chose from. Why? Because they could be worn in so many different ways...on the collar of a coat, neckline of a blouse, as an ornament to a belt or sash, on a hat holding feathers in place or attached to the headband, as a spot of color or sparkle on a clutch or handbag, or simply just to hold a scarf on place.
A beautiful pin worn on a black turtleneck ...simple, classic, and achieved by only one piece of jewelry !
We try to bring you the very best selection of unique pins in the hope that they may win back their place of honor in every woman's jewelry box.
