Neoclassical Oval Platter, Blue, selling Green, Gold and White 19th Century English Transferware, Dunn Bennet "Glencoe" Ironstone Serving Plate
This beautiful oval ironstone platter is likely from the 1870 to 1890 period, perhaps a bit earlier. It is English, and hallmarked "Dunn Bennett & Co", and offers a lovely hand tinted transferware pattern that is called "Glencoe". The colors of the transferware are different shades of blue, with hand tinted green leaves and gold luster highlighting the perimeter of the abstract shapes as well as the perimeter edge of the platter. There are minor and small spots of wear to the transferware. Around the perimeter, the ironstone has a subtle scalloped edge. There are no selling repairs, no chips, no fleabites, minimal wear to the transferware, and one old hairline crack on the underside (please see photo 9) that is just barely visible from the top (please see photo 7). The usefully sized and versatile platter measures about 15 1/16" by 10 7/8" and the rim is about 1 1/4" high. It weighs over 2 1/2 pounds. In fair condition.
