12 3/8" Ready to Emerge, Monarch Butterfly selling Chrysalis, Hand-Crafted From Paper Mache, Hand Painted with Acrylics.

One of the most exciting phases in the life cycle of the monarch is rendered here as a sculpture of the butterfly ready to emerge from its' chrysalis. Once a pale emerald green, right before emerging the chrysalis becomes dark and the details of the soon-to-be butterfly begin to be visible.
This sculpture chrysalis is large, 12 3/8 inches tall, and made to scale to match the other items in my monarch shop.
Made from paper mache' over sculpted foam and carefully painted in acrylic to show the subtle details of wings, legs, head, abdomen and antennae that are folded within. It is finished off with several layers of matte fluid medium giving it the translucent appearance the actual chrysalis has at this time. The cremaster of the chrysalis(the part it hangs from) is a disguised eye hanger that can be hung from a ceiling hook.

FOR HANGING: A swag hook comes included with this chrysalis that you can use to hang it from the ceiling. Other ideas to hang it are using an indoor flower hanger, which attaches to a wall, or a floor stand shepherd's hook.

This is NOT a toy, but it is durable enough to be hand-held for teaching or demonstrations. I made my first chrysalis eight years ago, used it for at least 50 live programs, and it still is like new. It looks great when paired with one of my caterpillars or the whole life cycle, which you can find in my shop.

The chrysalis should be displayed indoors. It could be displayed in a covered porch, as long as it is out selling of the rain.
