My name is Sharon Fitzpatrick Perry and I have been hooking rugs for well over 25 years. I try to use as much recycled wool as I can get my hands on but for the most part I buy the wool by the yard, wash it, dry it, dye it if necessary and then cut it into 1/4 inch strips. I design all of my own primitive rugs and also dye my own wool. I hooked this rug on a linen backing with 100% wool 1/4" fabric strips in many shades of colors including hand dyed, mill dyed, and over dyed shades. I also use a variety of wool plaids which add great texture to these hooked mats. This particular rug which measures 19 1/2 X 22 1/2 inches would look great as a wall hanging or floor mat. Just tack it to the wall with small tacks which can go right through the corners or any other area that needs reinforcing. It would also look great as a table centerpiece, pillow top, displayed on a trunk or just sitting on the back of the couch for a touch of color.
If you have any questions please get in touch and thanks for taking the time to view my work. If you'd like to see how these rugs are made just google "primitive rug hooking" and you'll find several videos on Utube showing how they are made and what materials are generally used.
If you're interested in making your own hooked rugs please check out my etsy rug hooking supply shop under seller name aprimitiverughooker which I have had selling for years and it's full of positive feedback.
