Product code: Wonderful Victorian Ambrotype of a very selling Intense Looking Young Man

This wonderful Ambrotype which I imagine to date to circa 1860 caught my eye sitting humbly on a table at an Antiques Fair, but I fell in love with it instantly. I think it was the look of the young gentleman sitting uneasily for his portrait with an intense sad look in his eyes. I knew I loved the hand tinting of the tablecloth, and the gold tinted books fob chain and I think shirt pins, but it was when I started photographing him I became more fascinated with his face, firstly with his chin as it looks slightly misshapen on one side and then there is his hair standing out above his opposite ear. The sitters would have to have sat for a considerable period of time for this photo to be taken and indeed I would imagine the situation of the photograph would of been a photographers studio, so I find it very hard to imagine that hair if it could of been would of been tamed to sit smoothly. I started to wonder whether this gentleman may of been in an accident and that caused this sadness in his face and the way he looks into the selling distance away from the camera lens. The portrait is for me a very earnest one. The ambrotype is within a very simple case with no decoration with what I think is brown leather on a wooden frame either on the case itself or on the inside velvet cover. It is I believe due to it's size a sixth plate Ambrotype measuring approx 3.25" in height by 2.75" in width as it sits within it's gold coloured frame, the case itself measures approx 3&1/2" in length by 3" in width. The ambrotype is in good condition, I have not taken the plate out of the case, so I am unsure whether there is anything underneath it, the case also is in good condition with very light surface scratches to the front and some wear to the wear the simple hook catches sit.
I hope that someone else sees the beauty in this little item and the intensity of emotion in that gaze!
