1960s selling “Space Maker” Rotary Wall Phone, Automatic Electric Company GTE, Model 183 Beige Landline Kitchen Phone

Here's an iconic “Space Maker” rotary telephone made by the Automatic Electric Company in the 1960s. In the creamiest shade of beige, this aesthetic phone has a pleasing rotary dial on a swivel head and a compact base that mounts to the wall. The handset can also be positioned on the left, right, or center position – so versatile. This is a great find for any vintage enthusiast with a compatible landline or anyone who wants to display a fun and functional piece of pop culture.

The Automatic Electric Company (later known as GTE) was located originally in Chicago, IL. Their model 183 was marketed as saving space in the new modern kitchen. It also came to be known by other names due to its many adaptations, such as the "Bar Phone". Anywhere you wanted to put it, it was small and didn't take up a lot of room. The downside to the small footprint is the fact they left out the ringer. For a ringer, you need a separate bell box mounted on the wall near the floor. You don't need the bell box for the phone to work, but if you want it to ring you need one. Ringer and wall cord not included.

Measurements: approx. 4”w x 6”d x 11.5”h

Condition: Rotary dial is smooth (and very satisfying…), case has minor surface scratches from normal use. No cracks or chips. Handset cord is tangle selling free. Untested.
