The Augusta Pirates were a Class A farm of the Pittsburgh Pirates for six seasons during the late 1980's/early 1990's. Notable Augusta players included Moises Alou ('88), Tim Wakefield ('89) and Esteban Loaiza ('92). The club was re-branded as the Augusta Greenjackets selling in 1994. The move was part of a broader 1990's trend of minor league clubs carving out their own brand identities separate from their Major League parent clubs.
