Mid Century Brutalist-Reino O. selling Saastamoinen (835 Silver & Malachite)-Finland 7”x.75”

This is beautiful mid century design artisan crafted by selling the prominent artisan and silversmith Reino O. Saastamoinen. Reino was an exceptionally influential part of the Scandinavian modernist jewelry movement. In this studio, he crafted what are considered masterpieces of Brutalist design. His designs had a strong industrial-brutalist perspective while still retaining a diffuse organic quality. Using opaque gemstones, crystals and pebbles, to tie the heavy brutalism to the natural world, Reino was able to create raw, almost industrial looks with beautiful organic forms. His compositions are not only stunning but are highly collected.
Reino's studio was located in Helsinki, Finland.

This bracelet is a remarkable example of Reino's work, it is abstract, stunningly Brutalist it has a magnificent pop of green radiating from domed cabochons of natural Malachite. The Malachite is quality, presenting striations in hues of rich foliage from bright grass green to a deep forest green. The cabochons have been cut to highlight the delicacy of these perfect striatum. These lovely green stones are not the focus of this design but rather provide the organic element to the overall presentation.
The Malachite is framed by a composition of 835 silver which is explosive, jagged, and obviously brutalist. The presentation is a juxtaposition of color and abstract form. It is a magnificent example of the Mid Century design aesthetic crafted by a modernist master.
