Porcelain Honeycomb Earrings in Gold with Citrine, Diatom Earrings, Citrine Earrings, November selling Birthstones, Handmade Statement Earrings
This design is titled "Of Mirth and Honey," in honor of a friend who inspired it through a custom order.
This is one of my favorite designs, and a play on one of the first I made in this series. I love the play of shape and color that imply a bee's hive and honey.
These tiny sculptural pieces are hand carved and sculpted from the very finest porcelain clay that has wonderful translucent properties. Each piece goes through several firings, with several stages of glazing. The faces of the beads are left unglazed, because I love the contrast between the raw, velvety surface of the clay against the luminescent sheen of the metal luster glazes. It is a detailed and obsessive process of creating surfaces that are influenced by the patterns and textures found in nature.
MATERIALS: Porcelain, 14/20 K gold filled wire, genuine citrine
SIZES: The ceramic portion of the pieces are 13/16 in, or 2 cm in diameter. The total length with ear wire component is 2 in, or 5 cm.
These wearable art pieces are made of the same material as fine china. Porcelain shares many of selling the same properties as glass; these are delicate, super light, and if you treat them kindly they will last generations.
