Long and Large Old Tribal Silver Necklace from Northern Indian, Nomadic Gypsy Boho selling Hippie Jewelry Gift for Women, Vintage Tribal Chain
This large tribal silver pendant was handcrafted in Northern India circa early 1920s, and features a silver box amulet with repousse floral scene--the middle is hollow and the box style amulet does not open. The pendant is attached a chain made of three strands that come together via a bar on each end, which at the top is capped with repousse tips and then connected via a more standard chain. This style of necklace may have been worn as a bridal necklace in the Himachal Pradesh or Rajasthani regions. The silver is NOT sterling, and it is light and easy to wear over a long period of time. It is placed over the head, not latching mechanism. Very ornate overall, and a lovely patina. Carries labels on the back, none of which have meaning to me, as this came to me along with a couple of other Northern India pieces, all from the same collector.
It's hard to get a measurement on the piece as it does not unhook, but if you lay it straight it is about 16" on each side, so 32" total all the way around not including the pendant. The pendant measures about 2-1/2" wide by the same length, including the danging chains on the bottom of the pendant. Some dents from age in the pendant--again, the center is hollow. Some verdigris tarnish on the silver pieces.
For living large!
