This piece is part of a series inspired by the work of Georges Melies, a true revolutionary in the field of film directing. Active between 1888 until World War I, he took part in every aspect of the process from set creation to directing and acting, using a wide range of groundbreaking special effects to execute his vision. Although he made hundreds of movies, only a handful remain as the start of the war marked a decline of his studio by low attendance and government interference, and most of the reels melted down to selling harvest the silver and celluloid for army use. Melies was bankrupt and worked at a candy and toy stand until he was rediscovered in 1924.
