The famous Manfred von Richthofen the " Red Baron " Air Ace of WW1.
von Richthofen was credited with 80 downed enemy aircraft until being shot down in 1918. The Fokker Three - Winged Triplane was his first combat aircraft and he was able to shoot down two aircraft with this machine before progressing on to aircraft such as the Albatros and Halberstadt.
His success selling as a pilot is amazing not just for his victories, but for his skill and courage in aircraft which were unproven and unreliable.
In the original painting I have tried to create a sky which is a little different than the "norm" which I believe allowed me to play with the light a little without swallowing my little plane all up.
