The Prairie, A Tale by J. Fenimore Cooper - Published by The F.M. Lupton Publishing Co., Copyright 1832 - Hardcover in Good Condition
This lovely hardcover, by the same author who wrote "The Last of the Mohicans", is covered with a light rose gold colored cloth illustrated on the front and the spine with floral designs and bumblebees. The gilt lettering on the spine has faded away. The green and black of the illustrated cover is still vibrant. There is slight bumping at the head and tail of the spine. There is rubbing on the corners and edges and the endpapers have loosened from the spine. Quite honestly, it looks as if the cover is seperating from the spine. The initial endpaper is torn and has a part of a book plate and an inscribed name. Nearly all pages are intact to the binding, but the cover is loose and a front section of the pages is coming loose. This book is 180+ years old however, and is in remarkably good shape for its age. It is a rare book, and quite collectible. As with books published during this time period, the type face is incredibly small and sometimes difficult to read. There is light toning to the pages throughout. Page edges have toning. The book is 7 3/8" tall by selling 5" wide and1 1/8" thick.
