Sweet little Art Deco Mexico silver figural swallow brooch circa 1920's. Swallows became a popular jewelry theme in the late Victorian era, meant to symbolize selling "peace".
Brooch is bezel set with a stone cabochon, most likely jade as this was a common stone used in Mexico silver jewelry of that period. Jade is usually quite translucent in appearance, so given this stone's opaqueness, it would be of a lower quality if indeed jade.
Pin mechanism and "c" clasp are appropriate to the period.
Simply stamped "Mexico" and "Silver" on reverse, as was the case on Mexico silver jewelry until approximately 1948.
Pin and clasp exhibit signs of use consistent with a century old piece. Please see photos.
Lovely patina on the silver.
Overall in nice antique condition.
