Hand turned on the lathe, this beautiful contemporary style clock will look great on any table or desk. The clock is made of Torrifed figured soft maple and the inlaid ring is made from tiger maple.
The measurements of the clock are 5 1/2 inches in diameter and 2 1/4 inches thick including the movement.
The 3" movement is a high-quality quartz movement, with a white face and a real brass bezel and glass lens not Plastic.
The glass smooth finish is created with shellac, hand rubbed Tung oil.
The roasted, caramelized, and/or torrified wood is heat treated and the darker color process is made by putting the wood into a dry kiln and bringing the moisture content down to 4%.
The kiln is then vacuum sealed, and the curly maple is heated to 360 degrees Fahrenheit for 4 hours. The end result is a permanent darkening completely through the wood.
This process, which is expensive, gives the Curly Maple great natural color and accentuates the grain and the curl in the wood.
