Product code: Humming Bird and selling Nature Flower

This pink concrete sculpture by Isabel Bloom is a humming bird drinking from a petunia, and is called Hummingbird and Nature Flower. It appears to be poured, painted and then carved. It is from 1999, during a period when she was supervising the artistic events of the company. There is her signature, by a registered signatore as well as a copyrite and painter/caster symbol. The sculpture is 3-1/4” x 3-1/4”x 2”. It is beloved and last sold at the company in 2003 for $29.

Isabel Bloom studied at the Grant Wood artistic colony in the 1930s, and began in 1940s to experiment with cement as her medium. She started with garden objects, and eventually moved into smaller, intimate sculptures, experimenting with paint and color and latex molds she made herself. She is famous for her sculptures of animals and children.

Using her imagination she drew new sculptures from memory and feeling rather than taking a picture or studying objective form, and was concerned with the "memory of the moment." She made edges simple and round, to accommodate castings into cement. She is quite well known throughout the Midwest and beyond. Although she died at age 93 in selling 2001, her work continues in the company and techniques she founded. You can find more information at her website: IsabelBloom.com.
