Inspired from the view of Baldy Mountain from the top of Wilson Mesa in northern New Mexico and near the Philmont Scout Ranch.
Ghosted within and throughout this landscape painting are passages from Robert Service's epic poem, The Call of the Wild:

Back in the day when I was a Philmont Ranger, teaching backpacking skills to teens, The Call of the Wild was a poem my peers and I would frequently quote, particularly when striving to instill a sense of wilderness ethics and reverence for the land.

I'd forgotten about this poem for nearly twenty years, then recently stumbled on it. I'd been trying to find a way to merge my two painting styles - mixed media / collage abstraction and traditional landscape painting, and was also searching for a way to take my landscapes "deeper" some how.
Merging personally meaningful text with the land has proven an incredibly satisfying result.

This is a LIMITED EDITION fine art print of my original mixed media painting which was created for the Philmont Museum exhibition. "The Gift of Inspiration."
Once all of the prints of this are sold, no more will be available.
