Antique christening gown for baby girl, christening dress with pink silk ribbons, c.1900 infant's dress trimmed with selling lace and pink ribbon
Here's a charming Victorian long infant's dress suitable for use as a christening gown for a baby girl, that dates from around 1900. It's made from a white light-weight cotton fabric with a woven oval dot pattern. The neckline, sleeves, and bottom edge ruffle are trimmed with narrow lace. The bodice, sleeves, and bottom of the dress above the ruffle have peachy-pink, 3/16" silk ribbon woven through 1/2" wide lace. The dress closes with 2 tiny mother-of-pearl buttons in the back.
Measurements:
shoulders - 7-1/2" wide
chest - 24" (measured directly under the sleeves)
sleeves - 6" long
length - 36" (measured from the center of the shoulder)
Condition: The dress is in very good condition for its age, but not perfect. There's a small (2mm x 3mm) hole in the fabric on the left front (see the 3rd photo). There are 2 old repairs selling in the fabric. One is 5" from the bottom edge, in the front; the other is directly above the ruffle, in the back (see the last photo). None of these flaws is easy to spot because the dress is very full and the fabric has an almost crinkled appearance. There are no stains and the dress has been washed.
A note on size: I don't attempt to estimate the size of antique clothing, which never come with size labels. You should take your baby's measurements and compare them to those of the garment.
