This fleece was carefully selected from those sheared at Turtle Valley Farm from our registered Gotland sheep. I retained only a fraction of the raw fleeces for sale, those that I found most appealing as a handspinner. selling These represent prime Gotland fiber in a range of natural colors. The raw fleece was skirted heavily to remove visible matted or soiled areas, areas with heavy vegetative matter (VM), short fibers, so that it is ready to be cleaned and processed for spinning or felting as preferred. I spent over an hour with each fleece, preparing it like I would for myself. There is still a small amount of VM in some, and I retained some dirty or muddy tips when I was confident these would respond to normal washing (significant dirt is mentioned in details). Fleeces vary in size and weight depending on the age and size of the animal, and the staple length may vary even within a fleece (reported as an average). Fall shearing brings the first fleeces of the spring lambs, and these are the offspring of my own Turtle Valley Farm herd sires. They are extremely fine and soft, but the older ewes that were selected for sale as raw fleece are also very soft. Coloration may vary within the fleece of a single animal, including variation from root to tip on exposure to the sun. It's not easy to buy a fleece without touching it, and Turtle Valley Farm is happy to accept returns if you are not pleased with your purchase.
